Book Drive Updates

A local recycling center recently donated approximately 1,000 used children’s books to Books for Life. Upon seeing the books at the recycling center, one of the workers remembered the “Teach the World to Read” Book Drive and decided to donate the books at his local Dillons. Several calls later, he called Books for Life and the books were picked up and brought to the Wichita office. The books will be sorted and packed by volunteers and will be sent to underprivileged children across the USA.

Scholastic recently donated 500 Spanish children’s storybooks to Books for Life. A Wichita man recently donated 1,500 Little Golden books from his collection to Books for Life for the “Teach the World to Read” Book Drive. Many of the first books published in the 1950’s were only 25 cents !

The "Teach the World to Read" Book Drive was recently highlighted in the weekend edition of the "Wichita Eagle". Volunteers across Kansas collected the donated books from their local Dillons, throughout the month of February.  A photo of volunteers collecting the books at a local Wichita store was included with the article. You can view both the article and the photo here.

Several Wichita Collegiate School Students volunteered with Books for Life this past month in their graphic arts class. The students created promotional posters for the "Teach the World to Read" book drive with clip art from www.booksforlife.org/bookdrive. The posters were printed in color on 11' x 17" paper and have been hung up around Collegiate. What a wonderful way to share love and spread hope !
