Book Drive Updates

Bel Aire Senior Center: After discussing what the group could do in connection with the Book Drive they decided on a book collection at their next dinner. A flyer was created and sent by email to everyone in the group. This is only one of several amazing groups of people who are adopting the book drive as their own this year !

View the flyer on our Facebook Page or click on the document below.

Several Wichita Collegiate School Students volunteered with Books for Life this past month in their graphic arts class. The students created promotional posters for the "Teach the World to Read" book drive with clip art from www.booksforlife.org/bookdrive. The posters were printed in color on 11' x 17" paper and have been hung up around Collegiate. What a wonderful way to share love and spread hope !

Barbara Baan of 'Hello Kansas' recently interviewed David Kimble of Trees for Life and Sheila Lowrie of Dillons. During the interview, they discussed the "Teach the World to Read" Book Drive. You can watch this Kansas Book Drive story at 12:00 pm on Tuesday Feb 16 on KSN. Check back next week for a link to the KSN website to watch the video online. Please feel free to share this with coworkers, friends and family in the Kansas area.

January 18, 2010: Students from Wichita Collegiate School volunteered with Books for Life at their school’s Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day Event. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Wichita Collegiate School invited students to do some community service projects at the school building. During this time, several of the younger elementary students learned about Books for Life and the “Teach the World to Read 2010 Book Drive”.  The students, mainly ages 4-10, taped creative promotional videos for the book drive as individuals and in small groups.

In November 2009, Kansas Rainbow Girls from across the state visited Wichita for a state-wide meeting and service event. Seventy Rainbow Girls ages 7-20 volunteered at Books for Life during this event. While they were here the girls learned about the 2010 Book Drive. Using their love of technology and enthusiastic personalities the girls taped videos to promote the “Teach the World to Read 2010 Book Drive”.  Their videos can be found in the Youth Video section of this website and/or on our Facebook and Myspace pages.
