Batahola Cultural Center Library

The Batahola Cultural Center is located in Managua, serving people from neighborhoods across the city. It’s a place of hope, learning, and empowerment; helping those without social, political, or economic power discover their human rights, self-value, and equality in society.

Transforming lives…

The Center began in 1983 to be an oasis of human transformation. The objective is to facilitate economic independence and social dignity by helping people discover their own abilities which will enable them to find a job and become a contributing member of society. Any person is welcome and will find a place of love and truth where their own personal richness is recognized regardless of economic status. Students learn how to defend their rights, be disciplined and responsible, make sacrifices for the sake of their family, and at the same time build personal strength and act honestly in order to be efficient in the development and transformation of their country.

The means of transformation…

The Center offers programs for kids and youth which include art, theater, folklore dance, music (choir and orchestra), and library programs to promote reading. Adult classes focus on the formation of leadership and teaching skills through the following classes: cooking, crafts, accounting, cashier training, and computer skills. A scholarship program is available for those who may not be able to afford the cost of attending the Center and the library provides the books and resources they need.

The library was started to provide a place for students to study and read. The library is always full of people studying, reading, and researching. Books for Life has helped through gifts of books and two computers which are connected to the internet. However, with the large number of people the library is serving many resources are needed. Your donation for any of the following will be used to change lives:

Books – especially university level

Children’s art materials

Library bookshelves

You can encourage transformation…

Many that attend the Batahola Cultural Center are single moms struggling to feed their children or they are children and youth that come without the support of anyone. The library provides a place where all can find help and encouragement for their education and can freely use the resources which help them create a brighter future for themselves and their families. Living a life where the means for an education are not available and the support from others is not found, the Center offers hope and a place of escape from a hard life where one depends on others for everything they need. The Center transforms these lives into ones that can provide for themselves and begin contributing to society in order to be able to help others that are in the same position they used to be in. By helping one person you exponentially help others as well.
