Dario Public Library

"Sweet as sweetest Grecian honey will my song be when I sing, O Beloved, in the season of the Spring!"

These are the words of the famous Nicaraguan poet, Ruben Dario. The city he was born in changed its name in 1920 to honor him. The house where Ruben Dario was born is now a museum that shares pictures, writings, and information about his life and the time he lived.

A library that impacts lives…

The Dario Public Library is found in the heart of the city. It is a place where children gather for story times, crafts, and simply just to read. Their smiles and giggles of excitement and joy fill the small room used for the library. High school students come to do homework and research. All ages can find the assistance they need from Marcia, the head librarian, as well as from volunteers that spend much of their time helping out at the library. Primary and secondary students have a place where they can find the help and resources they need to improve their education.

Your impact…

The Public Library offers activities for children to encourage reading and to facilitate interest in other areas, such as dance and the arts. Their collection of books is limited and extremely outdated, furniture is scarce, and supplies are hard to get. This library is making a difference in the lives of the students in Dario and the surrounding area. Just think how much more it could impact lives if they were able to obtain more resources. Books for Life has begun to add to the collection of books, and through your partnership with the Dario Public Library they could greatly improve their services and deepen the impact they are making. Resources they need are:

Computers and Internet

Library shelves, tables, and chairs

Books for all ages

Arts and crafts supplies

Story time, high school student researching

Real life impact…

A small, humble farmer in search of a means to provide for himself and his family came to the library to find the answers he was looking for. His name is Mr. Benvenido and he lives just outside of Dario. He wanted to increase the number of hens on his farm which would allow him a means of income. He used science books in the library to do research to find out how to build an incubator to increase the number of hens on his farm. Today he has more than 100 hens, thanks to the services offered by the public library.
