German-Nicaraguan Library

Creating hope, encouraging education, and inspiring a love for literature; that is exactly what the German-Nicaraguan Library and Mobile Library is doing for many across Nicaragua. The Mobile Library reaches out to a number of prisons and rural communities giving them access to books. The Library receives many students and adults daily, with the desire of creating a love for books and equipping many to become contributors to the development of their country.

Mobile Library Bus…

The Mobile Library began in 1987 with support from Germany. The Mobile Library visits a number of prisons every month giving prisoners an opportunity to simply learn to read and write and to further their education. Reading gives them moments of freedom within their small cells and prepares them for the time when they may once again become influential members of society. The Mobile Library also visits rural communities that would otherwise not have access to books, providing them a means to empower themselves through reading and an education.

A library changing a country…

The Library is located in Managua and has been active since 1993. It is a place that envelops artistic, educational, and cultural values. About 100 primary and secondary students visit daily to receive help with homework and research. Equipped with 14,000 books the German-Nicaraguan Library is able to supply students with the answers they are looking for. Schools near the Library take advantage of the children’s program that is instilling a love for reading at a young age. Children can visit the Library to hear stories, do arts and crafts, play games, and read books, all of which are showing them the importance of reading and lending to a bright future.

The German-Nicaraguan Library and Mobile Library is a successful program possessing the power to influence the entire country. Not only is the importance of reading a message clearly communicated, but also the importance of the arts and embracing cultures clearly conveyed as well. Paintings, inspired by the famous poet Ruben Dario, cover the walls as well as the artwork of artists that attend a nearby school. A library is never finished; there are always more books needed and greater educational resources to be had. You can partner with this great library and help influence the country of Nicaragua.
