Hogar Zacarias Guerra Library

A place for abandoned and orphaned children opened in Managua in 1914. Jose Zacarias Guerra left everything he had to provide a place for children without homes or families.

The Zacarias Guerra Home for orphans currently has space to house 250 orphans ages 6-18. The purpose of this home is to provide abandoned children with social, medical, cultural, and educational needs. The goal is to re-educate, rehabilitate, and then place them back into a family setting. Many children have been abused and struggle with things that have happened in their past. Hogar Zacarias Guerra helps them deal with their past so they can develop healthy self-value, find their identity, and see their importance in society.

Hogar Zacarias Guerra runs a school which is attended by those living at the home as well as children from nearby neighborhoods. The education the children and youth are receiving will be greatly enhanced once the library is completed. They are in the process of finishing the construction for the library and computer center which will be adjacent to the library. They are hoping to be able to train some of the older students to be responsible for operating the library. Your partnership with Hogar Zacarias Guerra will help them acquire the following resources that are greatly needed:

Updated books

Supplies for book protection and repair

Educational resources

Hogar Zacarias Guerra receives very little financial support from the government. Most of their financial support comes from national and international organizations as well as private businesses and individuals. You could be one of these individuals and help an abandoned child find a meaningful and productive life.
