Nicaragua: Las Mujeres Milagrosas/The Miraculous Women

Tisma Carpentry

Who are Las Mujeres Milagrosas?

Las Mujeres Milagrosas (The Miraculous Women) is an amazing group of highly motivated women in Tisma, Nicaragua. They have dreams of making Tisma a better place to live in the present as well as teaching the youth in order to provide for a better Tisma in the future. These women opened a preschool in 2006 and currently educate approximately 80 children who would otherwise be playing in the streets. The preschool is currently supported financially by the local evangelical church, however, the preschool needs to be financially self-sufficient in order to continue educating the children of Tisma.

Las Mujeres Milagrosas

What is their goal?

To create a Carpentry Shop that will accomplish the following goals:

Operate a Carpentry Shop that will provide full financial support for the preschool through sales of wood products.

Use the Carpentry Shop as a tool to teach and instruct the youth of Tisma; to raise up young men and women with a skill that will allow them to provide for themselves and their future families.

Use the Carpentry Shop as a means of mentoring youth; to show them how to be young adults with values and principles.

Provide a rich future for the village of Tisma; initially create products to be sold on a local level, then advance to a national level, and in the future possibly enter the international market of wood products.

How can you partner with Las Mujeres Milagrosas?

Las Mujeres Milagrosas have the land needed for the Carpentry Shop and an experienced carpenter to teach the skills. What they do not have is a building or tools to get their project up and running. Their desire is to receive a loan of $5,000 which will be used to build a structure to house the shop and purchase the tools and supplies needed to start producing wood products. Then, they can begin selling products and providing financially for the preschool.

It will take only 10 people donating $500 each to get this project up and running and Tisma headed toward a hopeful future.

Long Term Impact

This project will not only affect immediate families and individuals but will impact generations to come.

The Carpentry Shop will impact the youth and the course of their futures. They will learn a skill they can pass on to generations; greatly reducing unemployment.

The preschool will be able to continue providing an educational foundation for generations.

Mentoring and teaching of youth will create a Tisma filled with a responsible and proactive people contributing to the world in a positive way. They will have the power to inspire and teach others from what they have learned.

The long term impacts this project can have are so great; it is mind-boggling to think of the ways it will have effect. It is even more humbling to know that a group of women with great dreams are working hard to make those dreams reality for their community. To see the excitement and determination on their faces is far more than enough to make you believe in their project and know that it will be life changing...for so many now and exponentially more in the future.
