Ruben Dario School Library

Ruben Dario School Library

The library at the Hnos. de Salzburgo School began as a reading hall with no books. Slowly, students and parents began donating their used books. On April 23, of this year, the library was re-inagurated with over 4,000 books behind its doors. The fifty guests invited to the re-inauguration were able to enjoy poems and songs done by the students of this school.

The community that surrounds the Ruben Dario library is one of the poorest in the city of Leon. They are friendly people who enjoy the company of anyone who visits. Most of the inhabitants are textile factory workers, earning scarcely enough to sustain their families. Mercy, a third grade student at this school, is one of the most familiar faces to the librarian. She visits the library almost every day, and unlike most of the kids who go to the library because of homework, she goes to enjoy herself reading a fun children’s book.

 Students and classroom

Among the many activities that the library performs, one of the most important to the librarian is when they visit each classroom to have children develop a habit of reading. They do this by telling smaller kids stories and having older kids learn poems and songs. The library also has a dance team that participates in many cultural acts throughout the city.

One of the main goals of the Ruben Dario School Library is to be open to the community. They will only be able to achieve this if they hire a librarian to work the afternoon shift. You can impact the future of this library by providing the following:
