The first inhabitants of Masateppe were native villagers who lived in straw huts, but the city now boasts a thriving population. The Masateppe Public Library lies at the center of the city and provides resources for children of all ages. Marlon is a young man who can be found reading the books from the library everywhere he goes: riding the bus, eating, and even when walking. |

Located near Managua, the town of Nindirí has a rich and long history. One of its modern riches is the Nindirí Public Library, where local students who cannot afford textbooks for school come to study. Says 19-year old Daggy, “If we did not have a library we would not be able to do our homework and research and learn.” |

Years ago, an Argentinean child was adopted by a Swiss family. Growing up, his dream was to plant libraries in the most impoverished communities in the world. Patricio Stensrom wasn’t able to see his vision come true due to an illness that struck him at the age of 12; he lost his battle against the illness and died. His family, wanting to honor his memory and dreams, traveled to San Ramon and funded the library that carries his name. |

Six hours from Managua, of which only two hours are on a paved road, lies Rancho Grande. This is a community where most inhabitants have no running water or no water supply at all. They are mostly farmers harvesting beans and corn. The people of Rancho Grande are timid and mostly keep to themselves. The occasional visitors they get are so rare that when they see a stranger they tend to stare. Rancho Grande is currently under the harsh treatment of a national drought. |

La Trinidad is a small community 20 minutes south of the department of Esteli’s head city. Mostly made up of farm workers, it has eight schools but only one library. In the late 80’s, the Moers from Germany saw this need for a library and with efforts of the local municipality set up this first and only building. |
